We are in the 11’th A1Grade. We have nine teachers; here they are, with their respective names. Ladies first : Mrs RATEFY (Malagasy), Mrs RANOELIJAONA (History Geography), Mrs RAKOTOBE (English), Mrs MONIQUE (Biology), Mrs RAHELIARIMANANA (French). Now the gentlemen : Mr MARTIAL (Physics Chemistry), Mr TINASOA (Maths), Mr RANAIVO (Language 2) and Mr MANOU (Gym). The teacher of History and Geography is our home room teacher; you should come and attend one of her classes. She is funny : spiritual things always come first (Jesus adores us and we should give it back to him, she says). Contrary to students from private high schools, we are numerous : 41, including 29 girls and 12 boys. There are 40 pupils maximum in each class. Although we all live in the city (TANA), we are not all TANANARIVIANS. Some come from the provinces of MAJUNGA, TULEAR and DIEGO.
Now, let’s explain the name of our school : JEAN JOSEPH RABEARIVELO (JJR). JJR is an abbreviation for the name of a very famous MALAGASY poet who died in 1937. Our school is very old : 69 years of existence ! The principal is not a common woman (very strict). Her name is Mrs RABARIJAONA CLAUDIA ROBERT.
Presentation of our High School : it is located in the middle of the city, in the district of ANALAKELY, which makes it not difficult to find. It is composed by 2 big courtyards : we don’t know why one or the other was built, however all we know is that it is nice to walk around there. It seems like we are abroad (we use this expression to talk about something that we find beautiful !). The school is made of 4 buildings. Our classroom was renovated this year : tables and benches are new, walls are painted in white, which make it nicer to work in. It is the only one that was really modified. We also have a computer lab with 25 computers, including a few connected to the Internet.
Here is all we can say, therefore good-bye. By the way, to say this here, it is VELOMA !

Our school’s name is Jacques Rabemananjara High School : Jacques Rabemananjara is a Malagasy poet, nationalist (1912-2005), General Secretary of the MDRM party (Democratic Movement for the Malagasy Renovation). During the first Republic, he was Deputy and Mayor of our town Tamatave, also called Toamasina.
Our high school is located near the Indian Ocean in Tamatave. It is a bit old, yer we like it. There are 40 classrooms, plus the Centre of Documentation, the Centre of Resources, laboratories and the teachers’ room. In our school, there are 2 200 students and 70 teachers without counting supervisors and the administrative staff. We also have after class activities : club of environment, varieties, theatre, anti-AIDS, computers, rock, …. Our school is now 47 years old. We go to school 5 days out of 7, we perform the “flag ceremony” every Monday morning at 9 o’clock to show our patriotism. Class is from 7:00 am to noon and the afternoon from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm except on Saturday and Sunday. Our class uniform is a beige blouse for the girls and a pale blue shirt for the boys and for the sports, we wear a purple tee-shirt and white shorts.
We are in 10’th Grade. We are 60 students in the class, and we study 8 classes : 5 literary classes (Malagasy, French, English, History Geography, and a 2’nd Language) and 3 scientific classes (Maths, Physics Chemistry and Biology), plus physical education (soccer, basket-ball, hand-ball …) and computers, at the Centre of Resources where we have had 28 computers for 2 years.
